The Houston Rockets: a space team
The Houston Rockets, besides being known for having the Chinese player Yao Ming towering over its players, the team is also recognized because it was originally established in San Diego California, in 1967.
Because the basketball team belonged to San Diego, it went through rough times as the fans preferred the Lakers. Nowadays, the Rockets play in the South East Division within the NBA ́s West Conference, and they have gained a good following.
Relocation
Looking for better positioning, the Rockets relocated to Houston, Texas in 1971 and got some name recognition, partly due to the fact that this city is home to the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center and the Control Center.
If you want to take a vacation or are traveling to the city, make sure to go to see them play in their home town. Their loyal fan group has grown and you will surely have a great time!
Triumphs
The Rockets have won two championships, four conference titles and four division titles. In the past their performance in the league wasn’t stellar, but now, after hiring Yao Ming in 2002, the Rockets have not only attracted more followers but they have also begun to play brilliant games, and have played quite successful seasons.
Visit the Toyota Center, home to the Rockets, and be dazzled by a game from great basketball players such as Hakeem Olajuwon, Charles Barkley and Clive Drexler.
