Travel to Dominican Republic with Aeromexico

Founded in 1496 by the brother of Christopher Columbus, Bartolomé Colón, Dominican Republic is known as "The Primitive City of America" for being home to many of the first European constructions of the American continent.

After Cuba, it is the largest country in the Caribbean with an infinite choice of tourist attractions and entertainment. On the one hand, there is the Colonial Zone, where you can see most of the historic buildings, squares and museums.
On the other hand, the magnificent Dominican nature offers multiple and beautiful beaches with white sand and turquoise waters, rivers, lakes, excursions, eco tourism, water sports, delicious gastronomy and incredible landscapes that will make your trip an unforgettable adventure.

What to do in Dominican Republic?

One of the neuralgic points of Dominican Republic is in its capital, Santo Domingo. Visit the Colonial Zone, where the Ozama River witnesses the historic passage of the city, from the arrival of the Spaniards to the present day.
Here you will find many buildings and constructions from the 16th century, such as the Cathedral of Santa María la Menor (the first cathedral in America), the Alcázar de Colón (residence of Diego Colón, son of Cristobal Colón), the Fortaleza Ozama, the Bastion of the Count, among others. Take a stroll through Plaza Colon, Parque Independencia and Plaza España.
With more than 400 kilometers of coastline, Dominican Republic is an ideal destination to enjoy more than 15 beautiful and varied beaches where you can practice water sports such as snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking and catamaran, among others. One of the most tourist is Punta Cana, where you will be surrounded by the immense turquoise color of the sea and delicate sand, resorts and 11 golf courses.
Another of the most attractive areas is Samaná, where you can enjoy Playa Morón, the beautiful Salto Limón waterfall, Rincon Beach, Playa Las Terrenas and humpback whale watching between January and March.
To complement your visit, visit some of the natural parks like Los Haitises, Jaragua or Parque Nacional del Este, rafting on the Yaque del Norte River, tour the Cueva de las Maravillas and enjoy the view from Altos de Chován.

What to take into account when traveling to Dominican Republic?

Public transport in the Dominican Republic is quite efficient, connecting the main points of the country through the metro, buses, taxis and trains and car rental. For the Santo Domingo subway that has two lines, there are two types of cards: a single charge with a price of 15 Dominican pesos (6 Mexican pesos) and a rechargeable one with a price of 200 Dominican pesos (80 Mexican pesos) and 20 pesos per recharge (8 Mexican pesos).
For the region in which the Dominican Republic is located, the climate is tropical humid with rainy seasons and cyclones from April to June and from September to November. The rest of the year, the climate is warm with temperatures between 25 and 30 degrees Celsius so it is recommended to wear light clothing and some raincoat or windbreaker for the rains.
